Data Security

Data security is concerned with the practical implementation of data protection. This can affect all types of data in analog or digital form for which there is an interest in protection. Unlike data protection, data security thus also concerns data that has no personal reference. Another difference is the more practical approach. The focus is not on handling data in a morally and legally correct manner but on establishing concrete protective measures. Establishing data security is thus a prerequisite for implementing data protection.
Data security is to be regarded as an ideal goal to be achieved through appropriate measures. In the case of analog data in paper form, this could be secure storage in a safe. Today, however, the term usually refers to technical measures for the secure storage of digital data. In particular, this involves protection against data loss or manipulation, as well as against unauthorized viewing.
